Alex Reid was born in Gastonia, North Carolina and grew up in Rome, Georgia. The son of a local business owner and an educator, Alex was raised knowing the positive impact that a strong work ethic can have on his professional endeavors. Alex is a proud alumnus of Hampton University where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science. He then spent the next 3 years at the Charleston School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctorate in 2019. While at Charleston Law, Alex was a member of the Black Law Students Association and Entertainment and Sports Law Society. Additionally, he spent all 3 years of his law school career clerking for the Curry Law Firm, where he primarily focused on criminal defense.
As a black man living in a small southern town, he witnessed the racial disparities of the criminal justice system which ignited his interest in law. Alex fostered a desire to affect change by providing equitable legal representation to underserved communities. To pursue this purpose, Alex served both Colleton and Charleston counties in his capacity as Assistant Public Defender. During his tenure as Assistant Public Defender, he represented clients on a multitude of criminal charges, from the smallest drug possession to the most serious violent crimes. Alex became a lawyer for one simple reason, to help people and
passionately fight for their rights.
Alex is barred federally and in the state of South Carolina. He is a member of the National Black Lawyers Top 40 under 40, Greenville Bar Association, Greenville Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In his spare time, Alex volunteers with the local Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, loves exploring Greenville, and spending time with his family and friends.
