Alex Reid

Alex Reid was born in Gastonia, North Carolina and grew up playing soccer and saxophone in Rome, Georgia. The son of a local business owner and an educator, Alex was raised knowing the positive impact that a strong work ethic can have on his professional endeavors. Alex graduated in 2016 from Hampton University with a bachelor’s degree in Political Science. During his time at Charleston School of Law  he was a member of the Black Law Students Association and Entertainment and Sports Law Society. Additionally, he interned for Curry Law Firm where he mainly worked in criminal defense until he graduated in 2019 with his Juris Doctorate.

As a black man living in a small southern town, he witnessed the racial disparities of the criminal justice system which ignited his interest in law. Alex fostered a desire to affect change by providing equitable legal representation to the underserved communities. To pursue this purpose, Alex served both Colleton and Charleston counties in his capacity as Assistant Public Defender. During his tenure as Assistant Public Defender he has represented clients on a multitude of criminal defense cases, from the smallest drug possession to the most serious violent crimes. Alex became a lawyer for one simple reason, to help people and fight unyieldingly for their rights.

Alex is barred Federally and in the state of South Carolina. He is a member of the National Black Lawyers Top 40 under 40, Greenville Bar Association, Greenville Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the South Carolina Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. In his spare time Alex volunteers with the local Big Brothers and Big Sisters of America, and hangs out with his husky, Lexi.
